Photo\u00a0: gracieuset\u00e9 de l\u2019artiste.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Au cours de la pand\u00e9mie de COVID-19, alors que la performance en ligne faisait fureur, le directeur technique Trent Logan et moi-m\u00eame avons fait \u00e9quipe pour cr\u00e9er la compagnie Hyperloop Theatre \u2013 une compagnie dont l&#8217;objectif est d&#8217;explorer l&#8217;intersection entre la performance en direct et la technologie. Alors que les dangers de la pand\u00e9mie s&#8217;estompaient et que les spectacles revenaient dans les th\u00e9\u00e2tres traditionnels, nous avons remarqu\u00e9 que les mesures d&#8217;accessibilit\u00e9, qui \u00e9taient devenues courantes dans les espaces num\u00e9riques, disparaissaient. En 2022, avec le soutien d&#8217;artsnb, Hyperloop a cr\u00e9\u00e9 <em>ReCap<\/em>, une exploration de la cr\u00e9ation de sous-titres en direct qui seraient projet\u00e9s dans des espaces de repr\u00e9sentation physiques afin d&#8217;assurer l&#8217;accessibilit\u00e9 aux publics sourds et malentendants. Le concept \u00e9tait de cr\u00e9er une performance publique avec des sous-titres projet\u00e9s sur des Bo\u00eetes \u00e0 sous-titres \u2013 des fen\u00eatres roulantes recouvertes d&#8217;un mat\u00e9riau semi-opaque \u2013 qui pouvaient \u00eatre dispos\u00e9es autour de la sc\u00e8ne pour garder le texte pr\u00e8s de l&#8217;action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nous avons eu la chance d&#8217;embaucher le consultant et \u00e9ducateur en langue des signes am\u00e9ricaine Jax Warner, qui a guid\u00e9 la cr\u00e9ation avec enthousiasme et bienveillance. Rapidement, nous nous sommes rendu compte de la pr\u00e9tention (d\u00e9sormais \u00e9vidente) de ce projet. Il supposait beaucoup de choses \u2013 principalement que les sous-titres sont accessibles \u00e0 TOUTES les personnes sourdes et malentendantes. Pour de nombreuses personnes faisant partie de la population cible de <em>ReCap<\/em>, la langue des signes am\u00e9ricaine est leur langue principale, et non l&#8217;anglais \u00e9crit. Nous y avons travaill\u00e9 avec une \u00e9quipe de com\u00e9dien.nes pour r\u00e9p\u00e9ter une s\u00e9rie de courtes sc\u00e8nes et y incorporer les sous-titres projet\u00e9s. La mise en forme des sc\u00e8nes parall\u00e8lement \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation des sous-titres a \u00e9t\u00e9 tr\u00e8s excitante sur le plan artistique ! Positionner les sous-titres de mani\u00e8re \u00e0 ce qu&#8217;ils suivent un.e com\u00e9dien.nes dans ses d\u00e9placements sur sc\u00e8ne, associer chaque personnage \u00e0 une police de couleur diff\u00e9rente, ajouter des effets sonores onomatop\u00e9iques et marier la taille du texte au volume nous a ouvert \u00e0 un ensemble totalement nouveau d&#8217;incitations \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation. Pendant que je dirigeais les com\u00e9dien.nes sur sc\u00e8ne, Trent travaillait d&#8217;arrache-pied devant son ordinateur, tapant CHAQUE ligne de texte, la modelant pour l&#8217;adapter \u00e0 l&#8217;\u00e9cran et ajustant la taille pour qu&#8217;elle soit visible. Je grima\u00e7ais chaque fois que je me rendais compte que nous devions changer quelque chose dans le blocage&#8230; Cela nous a conduits \u00e0 notre deuxi\u00e8me grande r\u00e9v\u00e9lation, \u00e0 laquelle je reviens sans cesse depuis que je travaille sur l&#8217;accessibilit\u00e9 dans les arts : l&#8217;accessibilit\u00e9 exige du TEMPS.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-cyan-bluish-gray-color has-text-color has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-d4e67b89c9e6fd785a7555d15a386004\"><em>Photo d&#8217;une r\u00e9p\u00e9tition prise au Playhouse de Fredericton pendant la r\u00e9sidence interMISSION 2022 d&#8217;Hyperloop. En septembre 2022, nous avons pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 <em>ReCap<\/em> \u00e0 un petit public compos\u00e9 de personnes de la communaut\u00e9 sourde et malentendante et d&#8217;artistes de th\u00e9\u00e2tre entendants. Les sc\u00e8nes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es avec les sous-titres \u00e9labor\u00e9s, en compagnie d&#8217;un interpr\u00e8te ASL. Nous avons ensuite organis\u00e9 une br\u00e8ve discussion pour obtenir des commentaires. La majorit\u00e9 des artistes de th\u00e9\u00e2tre pr\u00e9sent.es ont vu les choses de la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re que nous. \u00abC&#8217;est g\u00e9nial !\u00bb \u00abQuel bel outil artistique ! \u00bb Les membres du public sourd et malentendant \u00e9taient plus mitig\u00e9s. Beaucoup d&#8217;entre eux ont appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 les sous-titres et ont appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 l&#8217;intention. La plupart ont suivi les sous-titres et se sont r\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9s \u00e0 l&#8217;interpr\u00e8te ASL lorsque quelque chose se passait trop vite. Un membre du public nous a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 qu&#8217;il n&#8217;avait pas regard\u00e9 les sous-titres une seule fois \u2013 pourquoi l&#8217;aurait-il fait ? L&#8217;interpr\u00e8te communiquait le texte dans leur langue pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9e. Tous les membres du public \u00e9taient d\u2019accord que les petits bouts d&#8217;ASL interpr\u00e9t\u00e9s par les com\u00e9dien.nes eux-m\u00eames (de simples \u00abOui, Non, D\u00e9sol\u00e9\u00bb parsem\u00e9s tout au long de la pi\u00e8ce) \u00e9taient formidables. Les le\u00e7ons apprises lors de cette occasion me servent tous les jours dans mon nouveau poste de directeur artistique associ\u00e9 de Solo Chicken Productions, une compagnie qui a l&#8217;accessibilit\u00e9 (et les ressources pour la mettre en \u0153uvre !) au c\u0153ur de ses pr\u00e9occupations. Bien que ReCap n&#8217;ait pas \u00e9t\u00e9 le miracle que nous avions peut-\u00eatre imagin\u00e9, il a toutefois donn\u00e9 \u00e0 l&#8217;\u00e9quipe l&#8217;occasion de travailler d&#8217;une nouvelle mani\u00e8re et de se poser des questions difficiles : \u00abQui est au centre de nos pr\u00e9occupations ?\u00bb \u00abDevons-nous changer d&#8217;approche ?\u00bb ou \u00abQue <em>faisons-nous<\/em> en ce moment m\u00eame ?\u00bb Je suis tr\u00e8s reconnaissant d&#8217;avoir eu l&#8217;occasion d&#8217;exp\u00e9rimenter, de faire des erreurs et d&#8217;apprendre \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer ma pratique. Il a suivi une formation aupr\u00e8s de Fight Directors Canada et est maintenant le metteur en sc\u00e8ne de combat et concepteur de violence le plus actif du Nouveau-Brunswick.
