Fredericton, December 3, 2025<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 <\/em>During its Annual Meeting held in Dieppe, the New Brunswick Arts Board (artsnb<\/strong>) elected Jason Guerrette<\/strong> as its new Chair. He succeeds Darren McLeod, who served in this role during the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Executive Members<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Jason Guerrette <\/strong>(Edmundston) as Chair, the artsnb Executive committee also includes Phyllis Grant <\/strong>(Oinpegitjoig First Nation) as 1st Vice-Chair, Ysabelle Vautour <\/strong>(Fredericton) as 2nd Vice-chair, and Jalianne Li <\/strong>(Moncton), who remains Treasurer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Board Members<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

artsnb proudly welcomes new members Haqq Ad\u00e9oy\u00e9 <\/strong>(Riverview), Jonathan Roy <\/strong>(Caraquet), and Marcela Torres<\/strong> (Saint John). These new members succeed Darren McLeod (Saint John), C\u00e9sar Su\u00e1rez (Saint John), Domenic Bro (Tracadie-Sheila), and Vanessa Moeller (Moncton), whose mandates ended this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

artsnb’s New Chair<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jason Guerrette<\/strong> is a singer-songwriter from Madawaska. Trained in classical voice at Universit\u00e9 de Moncton, he performed as a soloist in several operas at Capitol Theatre before making his mark in the popular music genre across New Brunswick and Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A finalist of Star Acad\u00e9mie in 2012, he shared the stage with several internationally renowned artists, including C\u00e9line Dion and Johnny Hallyday. A founding member of the electro-funk band Spoutnique, he has also toured in France with L\u2019Acadie, un pays qui se raconte<\/em>. In 2021, his single \u00c0 l\u2019abri des loups<\/em> remained first place on the ARCANB Top 10<\/em> for five consecutive weeks. Jason is currently developing a new electronic music duo, Pop Rouge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

artsnb’s New Board Members<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally from Benin, Haqq Ad\u00e9oy\u00e9<\/strong> (Riverview) is a multidisciplinary artist and member of the Slam Acadie collective. His work, which combines slam poetry, theatre, filmmaking, and photography, explores themes such as personal development, self-acceptance, and well-being. He has represented his collective internationally, notably at a slam festival in Burkina Faso, at Les \u00c9loizes, and in C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire. He is also a member of the Association acadienne des artistes professionnel.le.s du Nouveau-Brunswick and the Regroupement des artistes cin\u00e9astes de la francophonie canadienne.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Jonathan Roy<\/strong> is a poet and cultural worker who lives in Caraquet. At \u00c9ditions Perce-Neige, he published the anthology D\u00e9chirures vers l\u2019avenir<\/em> (2025), and poetry books m\u00e9lamine m\u00e9duse<\/em> (2023), Sav\u00e8ches \u00e0 fragmentation<\/em> (2019), and Apprendre \u00e0 tomber <\/em>(2012); the last two were awarded the Prix litt\u00e9raire Antonine-Maillet-Acadie Vie. His works also take the form of artist’s books, songs, and other literary manifestations. In 2021, he took to the stage in Sav\u00e8ches<\/em>, a play adapted from his work by the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre populaire d’Acadie. Jonathan is the director of the Festival acadien de po\u00e9sie and co-director of Perce-Neige\u2019s poetry collection.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Marcela Torres<\/strong> (Saint John) is an artist, curator, and art historian originally from Argentina.  Marcela has extensive curatorial experience at Casa Loma, and a solid background in the commercial art world through her role as Sales Associate at Galerie de Bellefeuille. She holds Bachelor\u2019s and Master\u2019s degrees in Fine Arts and Art History from Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Argentina, and also studied Business Administration at York University. She was appointed to the Saint John Community Arts Board in 2025, and she is Curator Consultant for Special Exhibitions at Casa Loma.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

About the New Brunswick Arts Board<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

An independent administrative funding agency for the development of the arts, the New Brunswick Arts Board (artsnb) is governed by a Board of nine voting members and two non-voting members. artsnb<\/strong>‘s mission is to manage public funds and engage with a network of partners in support of a diverse, thriving, and sustainable arts ecosystem across New Brunswick. artsnb encourages and celebrates the work of New Brunswick artists working in a broad range of disciplines and empower them to share their work throughout the province and beyond. Funding for artsnb programs is provided through the Arts Development Trust Fund, which benefitted from an increase in 2024, and by the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture. The department also allocates additional funding to the Artist in Residence program, as a response to the recommendations from the report of the Premier\u2019s Task Force on the Status of the Artist.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
