{"id":3375,"date":"2014-12-16T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-12-16T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging-artsnb.weavercrawford.com\/art-speaks-in-a-language-of-sharing\/"},"modified":"2014-12-16T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2014-12-16T00:00:00","slug":"art-speaks-in-a-language-of-sharing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/artsnb.ca\/web\/2014\/12\/art-speaks-in-a-language-of-sharing\/","title":{"rendered":"Art speaks in a language of sharing"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><b>Art speaks in a language of sharing in seek of understanding one another or in seek of an answer<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><i>Natalie Sappier \u2013 Aboriginal Outreach Officer<\/i><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4222\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4222\" style=\"width: 268px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/artsnb.ca\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Natalie-and-circle-of-elders-and-my-traditional-teacher-Imelda-Perley.jpeg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4222\" alt=\"Natalie and circle of elders member Imelda Perley\" src=\"https:\/\/artsnb.ca\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Natalie-and-circle-of-elders-and-my-traditional-teacher-Imelda-Perley.jpeg\" width=\"268\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4222\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Natalie and circle of elders member Imelda Perley<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The demand for Atlantic Aboriginal Art is on a rise!\u00a0 Not only are the galleries seeking Aboriginal artists but even the visitors traveling into the Province are on a hunt for ethnic Wabanaki traditional fine craft and art!\u00a0 For the past year <b>artsnb<\/b> has been working towards providing support to the Aboriginal Artists here in New Brunswick by sharing the opportunities through our organization but also sharing what is available through other organizations regionally and nationally.\u00a0 During my travels to the First Nation communities as an Aboriginal Outreach Officer I have reached over 200 Aboriginal artists and I know for a fact there is more out there!<\/p>\n<p>Most grants require exhibitions, public displays, well documented work, strong project ideas which require you to be able to write about who you are as artist, what you plan on doing in this project, why this project is important to you and where this will take you in your career.\u00a0 Some of these 200 plus artists are ready for grants such as a <a href=\"http:\/\/artsnb.ca\/site\/en\/programs\/creation\/\">Creation grant<\/a>, which allows you to focus on the development of a project and\/or do research. But the majority of the artists are not ready for this grant because they do not have an exhibition background, but that\u2019s ok.\u00a0 They eventually will.<\/p>\n<p>This year we partnered up with the Province\u2019s two other arts organizations <a href=\"http:\/\/artslinknb.com\/\">ArtslinkNB<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aaapnb.ca\/\">AAAPNB<\/a> \u201cAssociation acadienne des artistes professionnel.le.s du Nouveau-Brunswick\u201d to develop our <a href=\"http:\/\/artsnb.ca\/site\/en\/files\/2014\/09\/Aboriginal-Workshop-11x17_2014.jpg\">Career Planning workshop<\/a> that traveled into the First Nation communities. The workshop focused on digging within yourself to truly discover who you want to be as an artist, the art you want to create and goals you are reaching towards.\u00a0 We spoke about networking, documenting work, artists\u2019 statements, how to build an artist resumes, mentors and self-motivation.<\/p>\n<p>Yes there is a demand for Aboriginal work from these talented artists but what is important is for them to know why they do what they do, and where they want to go with it; to fulfill their own dreams and help continue their passionate career within the arts.\u00a0 First Nation artists have a collaborative nature, and are always working with other artists within or outside their community.\u00a0 They carry a unity of sharing their journey with others, especially the youth.\u00a0 So the <b>artsnb <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/artsnb.ca\/site\/en\/programs\/aboriginal-arts-capacity-building-program\/\">Aboriginal Arts Capacity Program<\/a> launched this fall was the perfect stepping stone to help the communities work on a project together and also bring in other artists to collaborate with.<\/p>\n<p>Collaboration is like a gathering, a celebration!\u00a0 Not only is this beautiful to see in our First Nation communities but it is beautiful to see throughout the Province.\u00a0 Which is one of the reasons why we asked ArtsLink NB and AAAPNB to come meet the Aboriginal artist\u2019s.\u00a0 For us all to connect.\u00a0 We are here sharing this land together.\u00a0 It is time for us to share our stories together.\u00a0 Strengthen friendships and create a stronger unity.<\/p>\n<p>Art is an inner voice that may only be spoken silently though a painting or a basket.
