The New Brunswick Arts Board is an arm’s length arts funding agency with a legislated mandate to facilitate and promote the creation of art as well as administering funding programs for professional artists in the province.
In consultation with our Circle of Elders, artsnb has made some exciting changes to the Aboriginal Arts Capacity Building Program, newly entitled “Equinox”. The Equinox Program for Indigenous Artists supports Indigenous artists, curators and groups to engage in artistic creation and professional development. We are pleased to announce that applicants can now submit a one minute oral video description of the project for which they are requesting funding. Artsnb offers this application method to be more inclusive and to ensure that all applicants experience
equal access to available programs and resources. To streamline the application process and to help artists identify the objectives of the program, there are now three categories of grants available in the Equinox Program. These categories are outlined below and include Research and Development, Creation of New Work, and Connections. The next deadline for the Equinox Program is November 15th, 2016.
CATEGORY 1 – Research and Development: This category of the Equinox Program provides individual artists, curators and ad hoc groups with the opportunity to research and develop their practice. Eligible activities include workshops, mentorships, and residencies. Funds can cover the costs of any fees and/or travel required up to the maximum available. This category is open to emerging, mid-career and senior artists and curators working in all artistic disciplines.
CATEGORY 2 – Creation of New Work: This category of the Equinox Program funds the creation of new work by individual artists, curators and ad hoc groups, and places value on projects with culturally specific dialogues. Projects will be evaluated based on their cultural value in addition to their artistic merit. This category is open to emerging, mid-career and senior artists and curators working in all artistic disciplines.
CATEGORY 3 – Connections: This category of the Equinox Program provides funds to individual artists, curators and groups undertaking projects that bring artists together through conferences, workshops, gatherings, exchanges and other activities that foster artistic relationships, connections and partnerships that strengthen Indigenous arts communities.
Please note that applicants can apply to only one category and can receive one Equinox grant per fiscal year.
