The New Brunswick Arts Board is an arm’s length arts funding agency with a legislated mandate to facilitate and promote the creation of art as well as administering funding programs for professional artists in the province.
It is with regrets that we bade farewell this month to our beloved Program Officer, Sarah-Jonathan Parker, who left artsnb to continue their work with a different organization. We are immensely grateful for the amazing work SJ accomplished over the last four and half years with us at artsnb.
We are pleased to announce that Rebecca Salazar has joined the team at artsnb! Rebecca is excited to help you with your next grant application and support your growth as a professional artist. She comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience from her studies in literature, philosophy, and creative writing, and from her involvement in the artistic community of New Brunswick.
I am delighted to join artsnb as Program Officer. My name is Rebecca Salazar, and I am a queer Latinx writer based in Wolastoq territory. I grew up in Sudbury, Ontario, territory of the Atikameksheng Anishnaabeg with my family, who immigrated from Colombia. In Sudbury, I completed bilingual French/English undergraduate studies in literature and philosophy at Laurentian University. In 2013, I moved to New Brunswick to pursue graduate studies in creative writing, and just completed my PhD this summer.
During my time in New Brunswick, I have had the privilege to collaborate with many local artists. I have worked as an editor for The Fiddlehead and Qwerty magazines, as co-founder of BIPOC Pride Fredericton, and co-host for Elm & Ampersand poetry podcast. I have also created collaborative performance and installation pieces with local musicians and visual or craft artists, and our creations have featured in festivals including Flourish and Morbid Curiosities. In my spare time, I dabble in embroidery and sewing, and am working on my second poetry collection.
