CHEYL LAVIGNE, NEW ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT AT ARTSNB

We are thrilled to welcome a new employee at artsnb! Cheryl Lavigne is artsnb new Administrative Assistant. Wondering who is that new voice when you dial 444.4444? That’s her! Warm welcome to the team Cheryl!

My name is Cheryl Lavigne (she/her), I am a mom, and educator, a visual artist, and bilingual (French and English) New Brunswicker born and raised in Bathurst, and now living in Fredericton. I also spend a significant amount of time with extended family in the St. Stephen area. I acknowledge that I live, work, and create art on the traditional and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqiyik and Peskotomuhkati Peoples.

I pursued fine art studies at Algoma University in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, before obtaining my education degree at UNB in French language and Visual Arts Education. Recently, I completed the Advanced Studio Practice (ASP) Program at New Brunswick College Of Craft And Design in small business management and creative independent study.

I consider myself self-taught as an artist. I enjoy the process of learning and creative problem solving through exploration of a variety of media. My art practice is based in painting, drawing, and mixed media collage and assemblage. In my work I am drawn to naturally occurring forms in nature. I am particularly inspired by the visual forms of decay, and the earth’s natural rhythms and patterns. My process involves spending time outdoors, where I sketch, paint or take photographs. I enjoy hiking trails that explore the forest, fields and wetlands of the province.

For the past ten years I’ve been an educator within the school district, teaching French language and specializing in cross-curricular arts education. I have transitioned my career to working part-time with artsnb to accommodate my family’s needs, while I maintain a studio practice and manage a creative business. In my role as Administrative Assistant, I look forward to serving artists, the artsnb staff, the executive board and all affiliates in both official languages.  I can be reached at cheryl@artsnb.ca or info@artsnb.ca
